Giving gifts to poor families in deep mountain areas.
Mang La Church consists of 5 villages. Including many different ethnic
groups such as Bahnar, Halang... The church was established in 1893
and has existed for a long time. The people living here are 100% ethnic
minorities. Up to the present period, according to statistics, there are
a total of 8,379 people, of which 8,143 are ethnic minorities, only 236
are Kinh people. I came here to survey because the number was very
large, so we only went to survey 1 village. During the survey there are
really many pitiful stories that they need our help. But I have been
selective because we only help within our limits.
The distance from Ho Chi Minh City to Kon Tum is 548.2 km. It takes a lot of time to take the bus
from Ho Chi Minh City to Kon Tum. So we'll go by plane. But in Kon Tum there is no airport, we have
to take a plane from Tan Son Nhat airport to Pleiku airport then we will take a taxi from Pleiku
airport to the charity site which is 54km.
Here are the current life situations they are going through, facing and different stories that need help.
What is their current life like?
Their lives are very poor. All of them live in deep mountainous areas with little social contact. And
limited in many things such as language, very few people communicate with society, the rest of
them only speak the language of their village. Their land is taken by the government, they live only
by hired labor, hospitals and other small facilities are located far away from the areas where they
focus on living. And especially their education level is very low and socially isolated.
Why do we need to help them?
In the village, most of the women after giving birth are weak because they have nothing to
eat. And many old people are alone. Every day that goes by they only eat leaves that grow
naturally around the house with cassava roots, they have no rice, no animal protein to eat.
Some families have young people, they work as hired laborers, but once in a while they have
a job when they have a little money, they pay for medicines and buy a few simple spices
such as salt and fish sauce. Why their work is not maintained continuously because they live
isolated from the outside society they live concentrated in the mountains.
And many lonely old grandparents have no energy to work and have no children, so they just
get through the day.
In the village there are a few houses built about 20 square meters for a family of 7 to 8
members to live. These houses are built partly because they are compensated by the state
for occupying land, and partly each year the state only builds 1.2 houses for the poor. It looked
like that but there was nothing in the house and they were very hungry.
After I went to do an in-depth survey to learn about their lives and listen to their aspirations. And
based on the cost of executing the program they are doing 3 activities in one program:
Donate food to 50 needy households at present.
2. Buy cakes, sweets, soft drinks for cultural activities with children in the village. (handing out candies and interacting with fellow children, setting up campfires)
